A new helmet for Nick Heidfeld

Nick Heidfeld instigated a design competition for his new Schuberth helmet, to be ready in time for his home F1 race at the Nurburgring. More than 9000 entries flooded in, making the job of choosing a design all the more difficult. However, Hungarian Tamás Simon captivated all with his distinctive ‘wild circles’ design. Heidfeld was quoted in Auto Motor und Sport as saying: “This helmet stands out from all the others. The first time I saw it, I thought it could be the winner. My first thought was simply: Wow! I want to see this come alive.”

On Friday 10th July, Tamás Simon handed over Heidfeld’s newly decorated Schuberth Formula 1 helmet and the BMW Sauber F1 driver went on to contest the Nurburgring Grand Prix of Germany. After the race the eye-catching helmet was auctioned in this year’s RTL telethon in aid of a children’s charity.

The complicated design took Heidfeld’s helmet painter Jens Munser a full 20 hours to complete.
