Premiere: C3 Carbon
The original2 - Schuberth makes further refinements to the world's best flip-up helmet
Carbon fibre helmet shell achieves a world-beating weight of less than 1,450 grammes - first flip-up motorcycle helmet with "Formula 1 technology" - limited edition of only 2,000 pieces
Magdeburg/Milan, 10 November 2009 - The C3, the lightest, smallest and quietest flip-up helmet in the world, is the original, and Schuberth is its inventor. Is it really possible to improve on an original which already excels in every way and has come through numerous independent tests as the very best in its class? With the C3 Carbon, the engineers from well-established German helmet manufacturer Schuberth have answered this question with an emphatic "yes"! Thanks to a helmet shell made completely of carbon fibres, the further technical development of the C3 has resulted in a record-breaking low weight of less than 1,450 grammes. To achieve this milestone Schuberth transferred the experience gained from carbon fibre processing in the Formula 1 into the development of the new C3 Carbon.
Often copied - never bettered
The first helmet manufacturer of its kind, Schuberth has been developing and constructing flip-up helmets since 1980 - initially exclusively for BMW and since 1998 under its own name. Schuberth flip-up helmets have always been the benchmark for the helmet segment. Whether you look at the Schuberth Concept, the C2 or the current C3: the original has often been copied - and this continues to be the case with each product generation - but its technical superiority and high level of comfort have never been matched.
Cutting-edge technology from Formula 1
Schuberth has been the exclusive development partner of Scuderia Ferrari since 2001, successfully building carbon fibre Formula 1 helmets for the royal class of motor sport. Since then, with Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen, Schuberth has celebrated five world championship titles. Top international drivers like Felipe Massa, Giancarlo Fisichella, Nick Heidfeld or Nico Rosberg place their trust in the cutting-edge technology which bears the label "made in Germany". And, for the coming 2010 season, the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is looking forward to wearing his first Schuberth helmet just as much as rookie Nico Hülkenberg.
The new C3 Carbon was born of the marriage of 30 years of expertise in the development of flip-up helmets with almost ten years of collaboration in Formula 1, and has smashed the low-weight record also previously held by the C3 by up to 12 per cent: the C3 Carbon is made of four to six layers of laminated carbon fibre and has thus achieved an overall weight of less than 1,450 grammes. It comes in two shell sizes covering a total of six different head sizes (52 - 65 cm); the actual weight of the individual helmet may therefore vary.
As Marcel Lejeune, CEO of Schuberth GmbH, explained during the presentation of the new C3 Carbon at the EICMA Motorcycle Fair in Milan: "The whole Schuberth team works on the continuous further development of our helmets with great precision, an eye for perfection and great love for motorbiking. These qualities propelled us into the royal class of motor sport nearly a decade ago, and we are proud to have long been the benchmark for Formula 1 helmets, even when it comes to pushing the limits of the possible. Today we are happy to be able to make some of the know-how we have gained in the process available to our motorcycle customers."
The C3 Carbon will be limited to an edition of 2,000.
The Schuberth C3 - the best in its class
The C3 Carbon naturally offers all the advantages of the C3 flip-up helmet, which in the course of numerous independent tests has long since proved itself to be the best in its class. The successful synthesis of sportiness and comfort has enabled the C3 Carbon also to put paid to the idea that flip-up helmets have to be clunky and cumbersome. Its aero-acoustic properties match the C3's record-breaking values: thanks to the acoustic collar, at a speed of 100 km/h the rider's ears will be subjected to a ride noise level no more than 84 dB (A). The C3 Carbon also boasts the same superlative aerodynamic properties as the C3, developed and tested by Schuberth's engineers through countless hours in the company's own wind tunnel. Its unbeatable aerodynamic properties mean that the C3 Carbon demonstrates absolute directional stability and pendular neutrality even at high speeds. Thanks to its sophisticated ventilation system, up to seven litres of fresh air flow into the helmet every second at a riding speed of 100 km/h, thus ensuring that the rider keeps a cool head even in those scorching curves.
