Schuberth expands DTM involvement
AMG Mercedes Driver CongFu Cheng Switches to Schuberth
Magdeburg, August 5th 2010. Beginning with the 5th race of the German Touring Car Championships (DTM) on 8 August at the Nürburgring, CongFu Cheng, a driver in the stern AMG Mercedes team has officially placed his trust in a motor sport helmet made by Magdeburg helmet manufacturer Schuberth. Since 2000, Schuberth has been developing and making carbon-fibre motor sport helmets for Formula 1. In DTM, long-term Schuberth partner Ralf Schumacher as well as current leader Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler both start at present with Schuberth.
During the last race at the Norisring, CongFu Cheng already had his first opportunity to test the Schuberth RF1 carbon helmet. After the weekend’s racing, Cheng declared himself extremely satisfied: “The Schuberth helmet is definitely the best helmet I’ve ever worn. It’s unbelievably comfortable. If you can feel safer whilst engaging in such an exciting activity as motor sport, that is in and of itself an enormous advantage.”
This year, 25-year-old Chinese rookie Cheng has been driving a last season’s car of the stern AMG Mercedes team and is thus the first Chinese ever to participate in the most popular European touring car series. Cheng has already celebrated successes in a number of Formula Junior series and was a participant in the McLaren sponsorship programme. The season highlight for the young Chinese driver will undoubtedly be the championship finale in Shanghai in front of his home crowd.
Marcel Lejeune, CEO of Schuberth GmbH, is delighted with the new member of the Schuberth “squad”: “Schuberth helmets stand worldwide for maximum safety and comfort. We can’t imagine better ambassadors for our brand than our select set of top international drivers and talented young stars who represent us credibly in numerous countries. We are delighted that with CongFu Cheng we have been able to win over one of the most successful Chinese racing drivers for Schuberth.”
Since 2003, Schuberth has been an exclusive development partner of Scuderia Ferrari. In the 2010 Formula 1 season, Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, Mercedes drivers Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg and test driver Nick Heidfeld as well as Formula 1 rookie Nico Hülkenberg have all placed their trust in the head protection from Magdeburg. In DTM, Bruno Spengler, Ralf Schumacher and CongFu Cheng race with Schuberth. In GP2, Jules Bianchi and Christian Vietoris are equipped with Schuberth helmets. In the USA, Bertrand Baguette and Townsend Bell represent the German premium brand in the Indy Racing League.
